Doll Quilt from Lilly

I was lucky enough to win another doll quilt. The lovley Lilly made and sent along an extra to our wonderful organiser Helen. Our name was drawn out of the hat so my litte man sam is very spoilt and gets this wonderful piece of work. Thank you Helen for organising the swap. And to Lilly who very generously donated an extra piece, she is very clever, her hand quilting is beautiful.

Thanks Bec

Well we are finally home and back online! Well sort of Dial-up anyway and at the moment it is better than nothing at all.

Our little parcel managed to track us down in Brisbane.

Thanks Bec for the lovely little quilt for Amelia and her teddies and doll and for the soap for me!

Sorry about the poor photo - I have to get some water onto the trees so I have somewhere nice to hang them - or take my things down to a nice garden!
Thanks again Bec. And thanks for organising this Helen - it was so much fun - cant wait for our next one!

Our new dolly quilt from Ingrid

Our dolly quilt has been played with non-stop for the games of 'patting babies' (ithis is where you sit with a doll on either side of you, wrap them up and then pat them on the back - it came from day care! I happen to think that a more appropriate name is whacking babies because the 'pats' are pretty hard!)

Thank you so much Ingrid - we love it!!

The Doll quilt has arrived

Well technically I got 2, which is a little confusing and I'm not sure if she made both but they greatefully recieved. Here are the photo's. Sam loves them already as you can see, and has been rolling around and chewing on it already. So thank you DDG they will both be loved and used.

Little trucker quilt for Austy - Thanks AJ!

This was definitely worth the wait - check out those super tiny triangles! Austy's first remarks as we opened the parcel was "Fabwic sor Mummy" (seeing the pretty pink wrapping fabric) then "Woooooooow!!! Little twiangles!!" Then I told him it was his quilt for Benji Bear and he quickly swooped it up and ran to his bedroom to get BB and his buddies, as well as his own baby quilt to go outside for a teddy bears picnic. Here are a few of the photos I snapped as he played.

And of course the little nameless boy doll (my nappy tester before Austy was born, especialily when my friend told me they'd be too big for a newborn...) Just to give you an idea of size, this doll is about the size of a 5-6lb baby.

AJ - I hope you find a pic there that you like for your quilt diary! There are plenty more, but I've already overloaded the blog... woops (insert blushing smilie here)

Thanks Lily

The lovely Lily sent me this beautiful hand quilted Doll quilt... I love the floral print fabric...I have something similar in blues i think... and it goes perfectly with the beautiful plum colour that it is alternated with.

From Kylie

Kylie has gone with Cate's theme of dogs by using some puppy print feature fabric with a pale pink homespun and hand embroidered a dog motif on the front and hand quilted bones and paw prints! Her backing and binding is multicoloured paw prints and the stitching is divine. And, Kylie also made a little drawstring bag for Cate and added a Schleich pony! Thanks so much Kylie xx

From Corrie

Here is the lovely dolls quit the lovely Corrie made for me. See, one figure is Grace, my eldest DD and the other is Matilda, the younger. I love it! Thank you again Corrie!

Helen's Quilt for Lily & Romily!

A teddy quilt for mister monster

Thank you so much Adds. I LOVE it! The fabrics and colours are just perfect and all the added extras make me feel like a very spoilt girl. It is dark and rainy here today so the pics aren't the best. I will try and get a better shot of the whole quilt tomorrow.

Quilts in Progress

Here is a little preview of the Doll Quilt that i am making. I am still unsure if I will make them smaller or leave them yet as they are quite big and may look a little silly. Actually yes I will make them smaller I think.

Here is another quilt top that I have just finished. It is taken from the "Baby Fats" quilt book and I just used some FQ's that I had in my stash. I still have 3 more to put together. I hope that it doesn't look too scrappy, I had trouble matching up the fabrics, it's not really my strong point.

AJ's Doll Quilt progress

Copied from my blog...

After getting very frustrated with and not having any inspiration from the materials I had already bought for the Doll Quilt I went to Spotlight...I was very uninspired there too! But came home and sat and sat and looked through my quilting books....and so here is what came of it.....
Some very tiny tiny triangles and lots of fiddling....
makes for some very tiny tiny flying geese...I've never made flying geese before....and tiny is hard...most of the points are right but somehow a few of them moved when I was sewing...I have already unpicked some of them...but I think it adds character...!!

And so yesterday from nothing we now have a completed Dolls Quilt top...waiting sandwiching....which I should get done today....pitty I can't show it yet!!

Helen's start......

This is what I am up too! I have rummaged through the stash and picked out these bits of fabric. So, my colour choices are ready to go, and I have the pattern in my head, ready for action! Of course my colour selection will most likely change as I go along, doesn't it always? Yeeeehar!

Saturday, September 8, 2007

Where are you up too??

With 7 weeks left before the posting date...I thought I'd check and see where we are all up to!
So post a comment to let us know...have you picked fabric, ordered fabric, raided the stash, decided on a pattern, started cutting and still playing with ideas or nearly finished?

2. What colours DON'T you like? black, brown,
3. What style of quilt do you like best? (Abstract, arty, traditional, modern etc.) Any.
4. What techniques and trimmings do you like? any

Hope that makes it a bit easier for my quilt partner.

Lily's answers :)

I’d love a quilt for Romily’s dolly bed. The ‘quilt’ that came with it is definitely not up to scratch! The size of the current quilt is 17” wide and 19” long, so around that size would be great (although I am the first to admit it’s not an exact science!!)

1. 1. What colours do you like?

Anything suitable for a little girl’s dolly quilt, but I'm a little partial to raspberry and pale green...

2. 2. What colours DON'T you like?

Still laughing at ‘poo brown’

3. 3. What style of quilt do you like best?

Arty, but for a dolly quilt, anything goes

4. 4. What techniques and trimmings do you like?

Applique is great and ric rac could be good on a doll quilt! Oh yeah, and I don't like yo-yos.

5. 5. Is there anything you DON'T want on your quilt?

No Bratz for us either! LOL they give me the heebie geebies!

Adds Doll Quilt swap answers

Cate would like a "blank-let" for one of her soft horses, she's really not fussed on the dimentions or colours or techniques, but if you could use some puppy dog motif fabric that would be fab! Cates fave colour is pink but she will be happy with anything you choose to make xx

How big is your child's bear/doll?

Obviously I can't ask just the person I am making for as it would give me away, so I thought I'd ask the question generally of everyone. It might help someone else too. Hopefully my swapee will add a comment with her child's bear/doll height ;)

I know you might have a few bears or dolls who will use the quilt, but just pick your child's favourite one to measure up for me.

I want to make a little extra something to go with the quilt, which is why I need the size. A height from head to toe, and a chest measurement would be PERFECT.

Thanks in advance, Joy

Joy's Doll Quilt answers

1. What colours do you like? I like most colours but like Helen would rather not have a multicouloured quilt - please stick to 2-3 colours. At the moment I am in love with the children's Michael Miller prints (especially good for a doll quilt!) so having one of those in there as a feature print would be FANTASTIC!!! As the quilt will be for Austy's boy doll and some teddies, boy colours would be good thanks.

2. What colours DON'T you like? No liscensed cartoons and no pinks please.

3. What style of quilt do you like best? (Abstract, arty, traditional, modern etc.) Any

4. What techniques and trimmings do you like? Applique, embroidery, yoyos, foundation pieced blocks, rik rak, lace, ribbons, buttons...? Any except yoyos

5. Is there anything you DON'T want on your quilt? Already covered above
